"Giant Magazine" to Cease Print Edition
Another publication has fallen victim to the economy, this time music magazine "Giant" which is changing direction to go digital at a later date.
The publication has hardly been immune to hard times, being tested as recently as 2007 when an "unknown" source sent out letters to advertisers of the magazine claiming that they were shutting their doors. The online publication will operate under a subsidiary of Radio One, Interactive One and operate at GiantLife.com. Radio One's other digital endeavors include Blackplanet.com, Newsone.com and Hellobeautiful.com.
Speaking to Allhiphop.com, Interactive One Cheif Content Officer, Smokey Fontaine, had this to say:
The final print edition will be on stands December 15th and feature R&B star Alicia Keys.

Owner Radio One announced Giant is folding in print, although it will continue in some form online. No word on layoffs yet. They paid a mere $270K for Giant in 2007, so the financial loss is not as terrible as it could have been, in a cold, corporate sense. (Gawker.com)

Tiger Woods Will Not Play in His Own Tournament
After what has become a tumultuous Thanksgiving break, Tiger Woods has now pulled out of his own golf tournament. According to his website, Woods claimed he would not be able to play due to facial lacerations as a result of his one-car accident in the early morning hours of November 27th.
Following rumors of an alleged affair, Tiger was involved in a one-car collision outside of his home at 2:25 Friday morning. While he has yet to talk with police, Woods did take to his personal website to make this statement:
Keep checking back for more updates as the story develops...
"As you all know, I had a single-car accident earlier this week, and sustained some injuries. I have some cuts, bruising and right now I'm pretty sore.
This situation is my fault, and it's obviously embarrassing to my family and me. I'm human and I'm not perfect. I will certainly make sure this doesn't happen again.
This is a private matter and I want to keep it that way. Although I understand there is curiosity, the many false, unfounded and malicious rumors that are currently circulating about my family and me are irresponsible.
The only person responsible for the accident is me. My wife, Elin, acted courageously when she saw I was hurt and in trouble. She was the first person to help me. Any other assertion is absolutely false.
This incident has been stressful and very difficult for Elin, our family and me. I appreciate all the concern and well wishes that we have received. But, I would also ask for some understanding that my family and I deserve some privacy no matter how intrusive some people can be."

New Music: Timbaland feat. Chris Brown, Keri Hilson & D.O.E. - Maniac (The One I Love)
Check out the song from Timbaland's Shock Value II scheduled to drop December 8th. The album version of this song will not feature vocals from Chris Brown as they were removed in final production.
A spokesperson for Brown said, "It was a mutually creative decision for both," not elaborating on what spurred the seemingly last-minute excising of the track formerly known as "Maniac." (mtv.com)
According to some reports, the name of the song was originally "Maniac" but insides thought it was a bad decision to associate Brown's name and image with the title because of his on-going legal issues.

The tracklisting for Lil Wanye's new "rock" project has rumored to leak online. Slated for a December 22nd release, the album which includes the rock & roll hit "Prom Queen" was originally scheduled to drop this past April as a follow-up to the "Prom Queen" single.
Rebirth Track List: 1. American Star 2. Prom Queen 3. Ground Zero 4. Da Da Da 5. Paradise 6. Get A Life 7. On Fire 8. Drop The World 9. Runnin 10. One Way Trip 11. Knockout 12. The Price Is Wrong (sohh.com)

The set will be packaged as a dual disc along with the Young Money collective, We Are Young Money. The latter comes after their first collaboration on Fall Out Boy's 2008 release, Folie a Deux. Lenny Kravitz, Travis Barker and Young Money/Cash Money artist Drake also appear on the set. Although the album is mostly rock inspired, with Lil Wayne playing guitar on most of the tracks, the leaked song, "Fix My Hat," produced by Drew Money, is one of the few rap tracks that made it onto the Rebirth set.

Duchess Condemns Beyoncé - She's No Role Model
Duchess Camilla Parker-Bowels, wife of Prince Charles, spoke out yesterday condemning Beyoncé and other artists for the overtly sexual and violent images they spread to young, influential children. The discussion took place between the Duchess and victims of sexual violence while Camilla was touring the Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre in Croydon, South London.
The Duchess referenced Beyoncé's latest project "Video Phone (Remix)" with Lady Gaga in which she dances around in skimpy outfits with toy guns.
While she blames the media for much of the overexposure to such images, Parker-Bowels also went onto say "...schools needed to become involved in teaching both male and female schoolchildren 'the value of respect for each other'"(DailyMail)

American Music Awards Wrap-Up - What You Missed
The 2009 American Music Awards just wrapped up and was generally under-whelming from start to finish. For an awards ceremony preceded by so much hype including the "Return of Rihanna" ... for next season, I suggest that ABC just say "There's an Awards Show on Sunday, Watch It" and that way we won't have such high expectations.
As promised, Janet Jackson opened the show and it was great to see her perform a medley of her hits from the early days to her latest single "Make Me." I'm still mesmerized every time I see her dance.
Next up, Jennifer Lopez and her single "Louboutins." Her entrance was something even fellow Puerto Rican and famed boxer Miguel Cotto would have been envious of. Her dance moves were on point from start to finish if you can ignore the fact that she fell when jumping from one set to another. Overall, her performance was pretty good... it's hard to believe she's a 40-year-old mother of infants and still looking so great. Check it out:
Introduced by Yankee Alex Rodriquez, Alicia Keys and Jay-Z performed their hit "Empire State of Mind," which including a cover of Sinatra's "New York, New York." The whole stage had a sort of 20s era vibe to it from the pianos across the stage to the white tux jacket that Jay wore. One question... why couldn't they have picked ANY other Yankee to introduce the song?
Okay time for Rihanna's comeback... Let's first point out that she has literally been all over the media since her February attack so it's not such a comeback. After such great reviews of so many of her previous performance in the past few weeks, I had huge expectations for her performance tonight and it left me feeling like we got short changed. I'm a huge fan of Rihanna on the radio but she sounded flat and the red laser beams seemed like she was recycling concepts from her tour with Kanye West. For someone that has some of the best PR and a reputation to be one of the hardest workers in the business, it's always a little disappointing to see when she doesn't live up to expectation. Check the performance here and draw your own conclusions:
Alicia Keys wasn't done after her performance with Jay-Z... later in the show, she performed Try "Sleeping with a Broken Heart." I had a love-hate relationship with this performance which isn't typical for me with Alicia Keys - she usually blows me away but some of the dancing was distracting and I feel like she just over-sang on some of the verses... take a listen and judge for yourself.
Lady Gaga continues to live up to her reputation of bizarre stage-sets and costumes but if there's one thing I think everyone can agree with when it comes to Gaga, it's that she brings 100% to the stage every single time. Performing her latest single "Bad Romance," Lady Gaga continued to impress.
Eminem and 50 Cent teamed up on stage again to perform at this year's show. While the magic of yester-year might not be there yet, Em was flawless through his entire performance.
Timbaland, SoShy and Nelly Furtado teamed up to perform their his "The Morning After" from Timb's ShockValue II album. I don't mind Timbaland singing on tracks but he definitely shouldn't be allowed to do it live. Nelly Furtado's presence was much appreciated once she arrived on stage... she's one of the most underrated beauties in the industry.
The Black Eyed Peas were the most disappointing performance of the night. After an introduction that recapped the incredible records they've put up over the last several years as a group, they sounded flat and were under-whelming. With so many hits in the 5 years and a reputation for being dynamic stage performers, the entire group seemed off.
The big winners for the night were Taylor Swift and Michael Jackson, neither of which was a huge surprise. The biggest shock of the entire night was the fact that Gloriana beat out Lady Gaga for "Breakout Artist of the Year." You know you've stunned the crowd when you get on stage and say "How many people in the audience are asking yourself 'who?' right now?"

Several Arrested in Europe - Accused of Fixing Soccer Matches
17 people across Germany and Switzerland have been arrested in connection with a gambling ring believed to have fixed more than 200 soccer matches across 9 countries in Europe. Authorities believe that they have only touched the surface of the scandal which includes the bribing of players, officials and trainers. Approximately $1.5 million was recovered in more than 50 raids across the continent. According to The New York Times:
"Among the games under suspicion are three in the Champions League, the prestigious tournament for Europe’s best teams."
The good news for soccer fans of some of the most elite players and teams is
...the investigation has not uncovered evidence of match fixing in any of the top-flight leagues in England, Spain, Italy or France. The stars of the sport, paid salaries upward of $5 million, are not likely to be susceptible to bribes, officials said. They emphasized that the marquee clubs like Barcelona, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and A.C. Milan so far were not suspected of fixing games.
The scale of corruption is expected to be far bigger than anything previously assumed as the investigation is on-going.

Death of Ex-fiancĂ© of ‘Real Housewife' Ruled Homicide
The Atlanta Journal Constitution is reporting that death of Kandi Burruss's ex-fiance A.J. Jewell has been deemed a homicide. While the autopsy reports show that Jewell ultimately died of complications from Sickle-Cell Anemia, the medical examiner said:
“Although Mr. Jewell died of complications of his underlying natural disease conditions, [the] complications would not have occurred if he had not experienced the extreme exertion that was part of the physical altercation,” the report said. “Due to the active involvement of another person, the manner of death is classified as a homicide.”
Jewell was part of a physical altercation outside of an Atlanta strip club, an establishment that Jewell was rumored to be investing in.
