"Giant Magazine" to Cease Print Edition

Another publication has fallen victim to the economy, this time music magazine "Giant" which is changing direction to go digital at a later date.

Owner Radio One announced Giant is folding in print, although it will continue in some form online. No word on layoffs yet. They paid a mere $270K for Giant in 2007, so the financial loss is not as terrible as it could have been, in a cold, corporate sense. (Gawker.com)

The publication has hardly been immune to hard times, being tested as recently as 2007 when an "unknown" source sent out letters to advertisers of the magazine claiming that they were shutting their doors. The online publication will operate under a subsidiary of Radio One, Interactive One and operate at GiantLife.com. Radio One's other digital endeavors include Blackplanet.com, Newsone.com and Hellobeautiful.com.

Speaking to Allhiphop.com, Interactive One Cheif Content Officer, Smokey Fontaine, had this to say:
“Suspending the print vehicle marks the end of an era, but I am thrilled with the opportunity to bring more Celebrity, Style and Culture to our audiences through my exclusive video series, and other integrated rich media opportunities...In the coming months consumers can look forward to more exclusive content from trend-setter and celebrity bloggers and active user participation and dialogue through TheGIANTList.” (Allhiphop.com)

The final print edition will be on stands December 15th and feature R&B star Alicia Keys.
